Keeping Graffinis Made in New York
Since our humble beginnings Graffinis Swimwear has always insisted that our bathing suits be made in New York. Throughout the years New York City’s Garment District has been a production hub for modern apparel. Up until the early to mid 90s it was one of the main locations where clothing was sampled, produced and distributed from. Fast forward to around 2008 or so and it was evident that things weren’t as bustling as they once were.
Thanks in large part to globalization and cheaper labor over seas, companies could now manufacture their clothing at a fraction of what they were paying domestically. So where does that leave the independent designer or the small business that doesn’t want to necessarily mass produce 100000 pieces per season. Well once the again the saving grace, especially in our case, has been through using technology.
Graffinis did not have to manufacture everything at once. Digital printing allowed us the ability to print our bikinis and one pieces as needed, or better yet a small managable inventory. One that we could fine tune, to provide you with the exact suits you wanted. The ‘new’ New York Garment District has evolved, mostly out of necessity to accommodate smaller brands that want to not only create smaller more impactful collections, but also want to keep manufacturing in The States.
Whether it was fate or just good timing we have definitely noticed more and more companies adopting the same philosophy as us and we look forward to continuing to produce our swimwear in New York City.
